Living with Rosacea

Commonly known as “the blushing disease,” approximately 16 million Americans have been diagnosed with rosacea. This disease can be a source of discomfort, physical pain and psychological stress. Experts believe that rosacea is hereditary and may be caused by a mite called demodex that lives on skin; a bug called H Pylori that infects the intestines; the way the body processes protein; or the way that the immune system reacts to certain bacteria.

There are four known subtypes of rosacea: Erythematotelangiectatic rosacea is characterized by flushing and visibly swelling blood vessels; papulopustular rosacea causes breakouts resembling acne; phymatous rosacea gives the skin a thick and bumpy texture in addition to redness; ocular rosacea causes eye inflammation that can include a bloodshot appearance of the eyes, swollen eyelids, and what can look to be a sty.

While there is no cure for rosacea, there are various treatment methods, including pharmaceuticals carefully tailored to each individual case, diets that omit possible triggers, and preventive skincare. Staying out of the sun is crucial in this capacity.

Beauty writer Stacey Gawronski candidly describes her experiences as a young woman living with rosacea on youbeauty.com. Misdiagnosed for years as having “sensitive skin” or run-of-the-mill acne, it was when she finally learned what was causing her skin issues that Gawronski was empowered to treat them. Perhaps more importantly, she reached a point of acceptance and positivity, musing: “My skin isn’t perfect, but is it really so bad?”

Ordinary makeup typically will not hide rosacea but specialty camouflage cosmetics like Smart Cover’s Concealing Crème can create the appearance of beautiful, smooth and clear skin in just a few seconds’ time. It dries to a matte finish with no setting powder required, and stays on until you take it off. If you are exhibiting symptoms of rosacea, consult your dermatologist for a diagnosis. When you’re ready to conceal your flaws without irritating your skin, Smart Cover will be waiting for you.

With over 35 years in the cosmetics industry, Smart Cover has led the way when it comes to camouflaging various skin imperfections. Our concealers have been used by customers all over the world to hide flaws ranging from vascular birthmarks to acne scars, vitiligo, dark eye circles and other skin issues.

For transgender women (women who are transitioning from male to female), Smart Cover’s Concealing Crème can cover stubble on the face, leaving the appearance of a smooth, matte finish. Even with hormone therapy, it is often a long road before the growth of facial hair stops completely, and camouflage cosmetics such as Smart Cover help transitioning women to feel confident and beautiful, with coverage and staying power above and beyond that of ordinary makeup.

According to Rachel Lubitz for Mic.com, cosmetics are more than just esteem boosters for many in the transgender community. She reports that makeup can be an important aspect of accepting and embracing a new gender identity. One transgender woman interviewed by Lubitz credited makeup with helping her to finally see her true self in the mirror. There can also be safety considerations. “For some women,” writes Lubitz, “‘Passing,’ or being easily recognized as their chosen gender, means life or death, and makeup just makes that process a little bit easier.”

Smart Cover has a range of products to help our customers feel like their best selves, whether they’re hiding skin flaws with our Perfect Touch Camouflage Crème, or accentuating their best features with our Believable Bronzer or Two-in-One Glow Stick. When you look in the mirror, you deserve to love what you see, and Smart Cover is dedicated to helping you experience that every day. Makeup Tutorials – Smart Cover’s Concealing Creme

Watch Makeup Artist Andrea Guttadaro demonstrate how quick and easy it is to apply Smart Cover’s Concealing Creme. It’s a one-step process that goes on creamy and dries to a matte finish without any setting powder. The camouflage makeup hides skin flaws on the face and body from acne blemishes, dark eye circles, melasma, stretch marks, scars, bruises, broken capillaries, furrows, sun spots, age spots to spider and varicose veins. The formula is designed to give serious coverage while still looking natural on the skin. It’s also a waterproof foundation so you can sweat or even swim while wearing it and the water rolls right off the skin. The concealing cremes have been dermatologist tested, allergy tested, and are fragrance free. It is also non-comedogenic so it won’t clog pores. The camouflage makeup’s highly pigmented formula helps people who have Vitiligo and want to cover their hypo-pigmentation with a long lasting coverage. The Concealing Creme, which comes in a tube also helps hide the redness for those who suffer from Rosacea, those who were born with port wine stain birthmarks or those who have skin discoloration from the effects of Lupus. Tattoos also go undercover with this heavy duty concealer. It lasts until you take it off.
