Smart Cover & Sunscreen: A Beautiful Team!

It’s late spring, and we are all so ready to enjoy the sunshine! It’s time for barbecues, playing in the park with the kids, and maybe your first beach outing of the season. But you know better than to soak up any of those sweet rays without first applying a layer or two of sunblock… right?

If you’re a Smart Cover lover, then one or more of our products is a probably a part of your daily routine. Whether you never leave the house without using the Smart Cover Stick to hide your under-eye circles, or you’re a devotee of our amazing Concealing Crème, your beauty regimen wouldn’t be complete without Smart Cover.

But protecting your skin from the sun needs to be just as much a part of your routine. Our customers often ask us if Smart Cover products contain SPF. While the density of the pigments used does have some protective properties, SPF evaluations have not been done on our products. Therefore, we recommend you apply a sunscreen first, and then apply your favorite Smart Cover makeup.

Fortunately, there are a number of sunscreen products on the market now that will provide you with the sun protection you need, without compromising your makeup or clogging up your pores. It’s best to try a few brands on your own, to see what works best for your unique skin type.

For example, for a sunscreen that hydrates without being overly greasy, perhaps try something infused with argan oil. Its high Vitamin E and fatty content makes it a natural skin softener. If you have sensitive skin, look for a sunscreen that does not contain paraben, sulphates, or artificial fragrances.

Most importantly, be sure that any sunscreen you choose has “broad spectrum UV coverage” on the label and aim for SPF 30 and higher. Treat daily sunscreen application as an essential step in your ongoing quest to be your best, healthiest self!

The Smart Money’s on You

Bargains are not just for those of us with modest incomes. In fact, research has indicated that many wealthy people get that way (and stay that way!) by seeking out the best deals. As David Anderson and Jessica Orwig report for Business Insider, rich people spend modestly, and when they do make a purchase, it’s a preplanned and carefully considered decision.

You may not be a millionaire, but that doesn’t mean you can’t adopt some of their smart habits! If you’re like most women, you use concealers on a daily basis to cover minor skin flaws or to even out your skin tone. You know what works for you in terms of shade and consistency. So why not pay half as much for twice the convenience? With the Smart Plan, you get your favorite Smart Cover products shipped to you automatically, for half the regular cost!

There are other ways we “normal folk” can emulate the rich, and it’s easier than you think.  Self-help icon and financial guru Tony Robbins asserts that even someone who is living paycheck to paycheck can afford to pay themselves. If the government imposes a tax on you, argues Robbins, you find a way to pay it. He suggests taxing yourself and finding creative ways to spend less in the present, in order to save for the future.

Robbins states that you don’t have to start off with a lot of money in order to accumulate wealth: “In reality, a small amount of money consistently set aside will provide a greater ability to achieve financial freedom.”

With the Smart Plan, you save 50% on products you consistently purchase anyway, and if you want to make any changes to your plan, a live Smart Cover representative is just a phone call away. There’s no better time than right now to make a change for the better, and start planning for a beautiful future!

Men and Smart Cover

When you hear the word “cosmetic,” you tend to think of makeup, of course, and women wanting to look their very best. Indeed, women in the United States and across the globe love Smart Cover Cosmetics because of our signature products, like the Concealing Crème, and our popular kits, like the Hollywood Makeup Artist kit. If you’re a “girly girl,” you can have a great time experimenting with our diverse product line.

But Smart Cover Cosmetics has a deeper mission than that. As pioneers of the camouflage cosmetics industry, Flori and I have sought to help people with serious skin issues face the world with a renewed sense of confidence and well being. For chronic acne sufferers, people with melasma, vitiligo, psoriasis, port wine birthmarks, and other skin afflictions, ordinary makeup was virtually useless.

And the reality is, it’s not just women who deal with the self-consciousness that can accompany having a prominent scar or skin discoloration. For a man with vitiligo, for example, the syndrome is compounded by the societal expectation that a man shouldn’t care how he looks, and certainly shouldn’t be buying any kind of cosmetic product. This, of course, is nonsense, and Smart Cover is proud to have a client base of men whose outlooks have been transformed by finally having a product that provides complete coverage of their skin issues (when they want to  cover it), with a simple application process and a product that won’t come off at inopportune times.

If you’re a man hiding a scar or a large birthmark, you can apply the Perfect Touch Camouflage Creme or Smart Cover Concealing Crème, and rest assured that going for a swim won’t wash off the product. Smart Cover stays on until you’re ready to take it off. It’s another instrument in your toolbox to help you face the world head-on!

Age Spots? See Spots Go.

At around the age of 40, you may begin to notice flat brown, black or grey spots on your skin. These are called age spots. They usually appear on parts of your body that receive the most sun exposure, such as your face, chest, hands and forearms. Experts believe that age spots are caused by ultraviolet rays from the sun, or from tanning beds. They are also thought to be yet another effect of aging.

Age spots, also commonly called “liver spots” or “sun spots,” are not harmful to your health and do not require medical treatment. However, many people consider them unsightly, especially because they are associated with the aging process, and of course we all want flawless, beautiful and above all, YOUNG skin! There are several methods for removing or improving the appearance of age spots.

Some people opt for dermabrasion, which essentially scrapes off the outer layers of your skin so that new skin can grow in its place. Chemical peels work in a similar fashion, except the process involves burning rather than sanding off the skin. Bleaching the skin can fade age spots gradually, but as noted on Healthline.com, “Bleaching and tretinoin creams make your skin more sensitive to UV damage.” It can also take several months before you begin to see any results.

Cryosurgery, which freezes the age spots with liquid nitrogen, can be costly, as can laser treatments, which work by destroying the cells that produce melanin. Because age spots are a cosmetic rather than medical issue, many people prefer a less aggressive solution. Smart Cover’s Concealing Crème covers age spots and other skin imperfections on the face and body, and because it’s waterproof, it’s perfect for long summer days at the beach. For a lighter touch, the Smart Cover Stick and Perfect Touch Camouflage Crème hide spots on the face in seconds.

Age is just a state of mind, especially when you have Smart Cover!

Do You Have Scars?

heatherA scar can leave an emotional mark as well a visible, physical one. Some people have scars caused by serious injuries, major surgery or even chronic diseases such as lupus. Scars can serve as a daily reminder of a traumatic event. In some cases, the presence of the scar itself is distressing.

Writes psychologist Patricia Price: “Society places a great deal of importance on how we look. While scars are considered desirable in some societies and may even be inflicted deliberately, in the majority of cultures this is not the case.”

Some people prefer to bare their scars proudly, as symbolic badges of courage representing challenges they’ve overcome. That kind of self-acceptance is truly admirable; it’s a beautiful thing to see people feeling comfortable in their own skin. As Kitty Dimbleby explains for the Daily Mail, “My battle wounds show the world what I have survived…”

For those who want to retain the option to conceal their scars, Smart Cover has the tools for complete coverage, so everyone can feel confident. Smart Cover’s Concealing Crème provides opaque, long-lasting coverage with a natural-looking matte finish. It’s waterproof, so even if you go for a swim in the ocean, the Concealing Crème will stay on until you’re ready for it to come off.

Living with scars looks different for everybody, whether it’s how you got your scar to how you feel about letting the world see it. What we all have in common is the universal desire to feel like our true selves, and not to be defined by one superficial trait. We all deserve to feel beautiful and we are all entitled to find our own path to get there.

If concealing a scar (or any other skin imperfection) makes you feel like your best you, Smart Cover has exactly what you’re looking for!

The Debate of the Year!

No, we don’t mean THAT debate. We’re talking about cosmetic policy, not foreign policy! So what’s yours?

Some people swear by sponges and brushes when it comes to applying their concealing makeup, while others prefer their own good old-fashioned fingertips. There are no wrong answers; there are pros and cons for all of the choices.

If you use your fingertips to apply Smart Cover’s Concealing Crème, you benefit from your natural body warmth, which helps the makeup go on even more smoothly. Your own fingers are also just about the most low-maintenance and cost-effective beauty tools you could ever want. Just be sure to wash your hands thoroughly before and after any makeup application. Fingers can carry bacteria and dirt that you don’t want anywhere near your face.

Brushes may not be what you think of first when it comes to applying a concealer, but they definitely have their place. Smart Cover’s Camouflage Brush, for example, is designed to fit into hard-to-reach places like the inside corners of your eyes. These small but shadowy areas can make you look older and more drawn if you don’t correctly apply your concealer to those dark corners. The Camouflage Brush is also great for getting precise, even coverage of dark eye circles.

Sponges offer more control than your bare fingertips, allowing you to create a more sheer and lightweight effect. Some makeup artists even recommend dampening the sponge first, to give a more natural-looking glow, especially if you’re using the Concealing Crème as an all-over foundation on your face. Just be sure to moisturize and prime your face before using the sponge, or it may “catch and lift dry skin,” warns beauty writer Louise Griew.

All Smart Cover kits come with a camouflage brush and two sponges, so feel free to experiment with all three methods to find what works best for you. (Sorry, you’ll have to furnish the fingertips yourself.)
