Pregnancy and Your Skin

Pregnancy and your skin can be an unpredictable combination. For many women, finding out that they are expecting is one of the most joyful moments imaginable. Having a baby changes your life, but some women are surprised to learn how much it can change their skin. For starters, there is that famous “glow” pregnant women are told they have.

Pregnancy and Your Skin

It turns out that there are valid scientific reasons your skin seems to be aglow, according to The American Pregnancy Association. Firstly, when you’re pregnant, your body produces 50% more blood, giving your face a bright, rosy look.

Secondly, your hormones are hard at work, which causes your glands to produce more oil, resulting in a shiny appearance. If you’re worried about looking a little too shiny, try Smart Cover’s Compact Finishing Powder. It takes away the “greasy” look without diminishing your gorgeous natural glow.

Characterized by brown or grayish marks that usually appear on the face, melasma is a skin condition that most frequently affects pregnant women. Though it is not dangerous, it can be stressful, especially because ordinary makeup typically cannot cover the discoloration melasma causes.

Fortunately, the Smart Cover Stick and waterproof Concealing Crème hide the marks caused by melasma. Since you can use the Concealing Crème on the face and the body, it’s also a great way to cover varicose veins on the legs, which can sometimes occur with pregnancy.

For the acne breakouts that often come with pregnancy, cover blemishes with the Smart Cover Stick. Be sure to wash the excess oils from your skin before bed with a gentle cleanser like the Smart Cover Makeup Remover & Cleanser.

The inconveniences and cosmetic hurdles that can come with pregnancy may be temporary, but the joys of parenthood are forever. To get you through the good, the bad, and the beautiful, you always have Smart Cover!

The Mask of Pregnancy

If you’rPregnant Silhouettee an expectant mother, the changes to your body can be overwhelming. In addition to weight gain, fatigue and mood swings, the surge in hormones can trigger a skin condition called melasma.

Often called “the mask of pregnancy,” melasma usually appears on the forehead, nose, cheeks and upper lip. It sometimes shows up on the forearms and neck, especially if those areas have been exposed to the sun. This seemingly minor cosmetic condition can be highly stressful.

Characterized by brown or grayish-brown marks on the face, melasma is not dangerous.  It is also worth noting that while pregnant women are far and away the most likely to be afflicted with melasma, both men and women are susceptible.

Though it usually fades away on its own over time, some people are afflicted with melasma for years and need to seek the help of a dermatologist to treat it. Topical medications such as Hydroquinone, azelaic acid or kojic acid are sometimes prescribed. Others opt for procedures including chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and dermabrasion.

Smart Cover has set the industry standard when it comes to camouflage cosmetics and we truly care about helping you feel like your very best self.
